Ike’s Korner Grill

The cheeseburgers are the best in town at this mill village eatery that has been serving locals for more than 50 years. Stop in for a Budweiser and a burger with hand-cut fries, and soak up the atmosphere. On the outskirts of the Beaumont mill village, Ike’s is unassuming on the outside, busy and eclectic on the inside.

Literally “on the other side of the tracks,” Ike’s began about the time textile workers could afford to purchase cars and venture a little farther off the mill hill. A sense of community grew up around this little joint, and continues to this day, despite the fact that all the mills in the area—Beaumont, Drayton and Whitney—are closed. While few, if any, of Ike’s customers are mill people anymore, the old-time cuisine survives. One of the most popular items on the menu is a baloney sandwich, served “burnt,” just like the old days. Or sample the Turbo Dog, a deep-fried, bacon-wrapped wiener, with an appetizer of fried pickles.

The crowd is often a crazy mix at Ike’s—lawyers, car mechanics, bankers, and day laborers, all seated at the long tables together, or gathered at the bar. Pull up a chair and you might make a new friend! Ike’s is open Monday 10 am-3 pm; Tuesday through Friday 10 am-9 pm; Saturday 7am-3pm.
